Alexa Pagerank, Technorati Rank and Google Pagerank for Newbies:Tips to improve your blog's rank

There are so many services available on the web that help you to decide on your blog or website's popularity Which one do you depend on? Which one is good for you? I will try to present a basic view on how these ranking services work and how you can improve your blog rank in those services. Three most popular ranking services such as Google Pagerank, Alexa Pagerank and Technorati Auhority (and Technorati Rank) are reviewed here

1. Google Pagerank - Higher the better.

Maximum score you can achieve:10

Download link: Google Toolbar

Short Description:
A very popular measure of a blog's worth well known to everyone because of the Google's backlinks algorithm. Though, a large number of one-way, backlinks would help you to increase the Google's Pagerank - the backlinks will not alone determine the pagerank.

2.Alexa Pagerank - Lower, the better.
Maximum score you can achieve:1

Download link: Alexa toolbar (For Internet Explorer)

Alexa toolbar (An Extension for Firefox users)

Short Description:

Alexa pagerank is calculated by the number of Alexa users who visit your blog, reviews your blog and ranks your blog. It is measure of the daily reach, pag views, links and visitor reviews.

Good things:
One of the well-known, old ranking services available on the web.
Pay per reviews consider Alexa page rank as an important indicator of your blog's worth.

Critics:

Obviously, it is skewed - because, it measures only the Alexa tool bar users - a small sample of the web users.

Ideas to increase your Alexa Pagerank:

"Install the toolbar and set your blog as the homepage in your browser." - from Dummies Guide to Google Blogger Beta

"Instead of leaving your URL on comments, use an Alexa redirect url for your website, that is, http://redirect.alexa.com/redirect?www.howtoliveonline.com. This will count as a pagevisit by an Alexa user" - from Connected Internet

"You can add an Alexa widget to your blog, visitor clics will also count towards Alexa user pageviews" - Dosh Dosh

3. Technorati Authority - Higher the better

Maximum score you can achieve: A number

Maximum rank: 1 (that will have the highest authority)

No need to download anything.

Create an account with Technorati and Claim your blog.

Technorati is a blog directory that tracks who links to whom in the blog world. It follows over 8 billion blogs, their RSS and backlinks in real-time.

Recently, technorati introduced two facotrs to measure a blog's popularity. One is "Technorati Authority" and another is "Technorati Rank".

"Technorati Authority is the number of blogs linking to a website in the last six months. The higher the number, the more Technorati Authority the blog has." -says Technorati official blog.

Technorati counts the unique backlinks for a blog which means, if a website mentions your blog in 3 different posts, still that will be considered one link.

So, the only way to increase the authority is that you need to attract good readers (or bloggers) who can turn into your fans. Write interesting articles frequently.

The blog which has the "most authority" is ranked at number one (Technorati Rank).

Technorati favourite exchanges and link swaps do not really work well with the new Technorati algorithm.

Tris of 'A view from Isle' presents a detailed dissection of the characteristics of blogs based on their technorati authority. Tris, further suggests that you should post frequently and link more - so that your readers (blogging friends) will return the favour. Good thoughts.

A final word:
There you are. Three page ranking services. The bottom line to increase your pageranking in all of these services is to write good posts and publicizing them in social network sites and other blogs. Another important habit you should develop is active commenting on other blogs.

How to Live Online is ranked at 411,024 (within top 4 lakh blogs) by Alexa and 283, 677 (within top 3 lakh blogs) by Technorati. Google has not yet ranked my blog since I moved to the custom domain. I am expecting that my old blogspot's pagerank of 4 will be restored soon. Not bad, is it not?

If you have a blog website and you want to increase its page ranking then there are multiple ways through which you can do so. At first you should have a web hosting service for your website. It is very difficult to find the best web hosting service providers which are providing good quality service along with cheapest domain name. If you want fast access to internet then you can go for wireless internet service providers they not only give webhosting services but also give complete seo solution for your website.
