5 Reasons why you MUST leave comments on other blogs

26 July 2007 5 Comments

Do you know what a blogger’s wildest dream will be? It may go like this: waking up one fine day – to find lot of comments on their blog posts. A blog is a personal take on a subject matter, and the comments made by the readers of the blog are a way to assess the viewpoint. If you have a established blog, your readers would engage in a discussion which will add good value to the blog post itself.

1) Because, every blogger loves comments:
I will be happy to see comments on my blog (like any other blogger). When they are happy, they will pay you back a visit (to your blog) and in case if you have a worthy content, they might even link back to it. Nowadays, I regularly login to check if I have got any new comments rather than checking my Google Analytics page. I have seen that it is difficult to get ‘the first comment’, once someone comments, people would like to follow. The most commented page on this blog is ‘StumbleUpon vs. Digg:Which is best for promoting a blog’ – and it has received comments because, I had submitted it to SU – and there was a controversy surrounding it, that is , is it right to submit your own content to SU? I loved the fact that I created a stir among the SU users and bloggers.

2) You grow popular:
Most of the bloggers have ‘do-follow’ option enabled, which means, the comment you make on their blogs is followed by the search engines. Whenever you leave your blog link on other blogs, your blog directly gains on search engine rankings. Technorati – a blog cataloguing service takes the comments you make as a linkback from the blog you are commenting on. So, go on, comment on other blogs and build linkbacks. You will get richer by pagerank, just by providing your ‘Name’ and the ‘Blog Link’. Technorati follows them, for sure, and gives more authority to your blog.

Additional Tip: If you are commenting on a Blogspot blog (when you are logged into your Blogger account), choose the "Other option" instead of your default "Blogger account" and type in your name and the blog url. Beacuse, if you use your Blogger account, clicking on your name will lead to your Blogger profile (I know some profiles are kept to private – thats useless), instead of a direct blog.

3) Express your intelligence:
Don’t comment “The post is good. Visit my blog”, it sucks. At least skim through the blog post (even if you don’t read the entire post) and write your viewpoint short and sweet. Your comment should be an advertisement for your blog. It should attract any reader reading it. Always, think before you write them (is it really worth, does it add value to the post etc) and check spelling and grammar. You don’t want to put off your readers by leaving a mundane comment on other blogs.

4) Commenting is Healthy:
Make commenting as a daily habit – even if you don’t feel like. When you read your favourite blogs on the RSS feeder, make a point to comment. You will always have something to say. Become an active reader who participates in a discussion – which may be asking your doubt, or adding anything you would like to express on the subject.
What goes, comes back in multiple. Very true in the blogosphere. If you comment on 2 blogs, the chances are high that you may get 4 comments in the near future.

5) You will get rewards:
Many bloggers have kept a "top 5 commentators" list, which would sit in the sidebar of the blog – and it is a good way to traffic from that blog. But, don’t over-comment just to make it to the top. If you are leaving a comment on a top blog (which has a readership of 5000+ and a Technorati authority of 1000), be first to do it. Because, readers of a blog post are naturally interested in looking at comments section. You may attract few readers and even the big fish – the blog author.

Be nice, leave comments!

I totally agree. But looking at the number of comments you got on this article, it seems not many people got your point :)

I cannot agree with you more – I know that on the days that I don’t go out and actively comment, my traffic will be slow for that day.

Another tip would be to get yourself a list of blogs and try to comment on all of them – you’ll probably find a bunch of blogs that you like and can add into your RSS reader. Also, if you subscribe to something like the Bumpzee community feeds and comment on the ones you want, you’ll get yourself out there in a quick and easy fashion.

Thank you for sharing with us.

I do get happy when i saw lots of comments for an entry at my blog.

But sometimes, people are just plain lazy to comment =/
