Duties of every Human being

Among the creatures of the Almighty, human beings have a rare talent, which essentially differentiate them from others. Plato defined ‘Man’ as ‘a Social Animal’, which means that man cannot live all alone and he must necessarily learn to live with others. Therefore, human beings as social animals, coupled with talent have some social obligations and duties that they owe to their family as well to the society. In addition to that in this modern era of Nationalism and Internationalism, the human beings have additional roles to play as the citizens of a country. That is why countries have enacted specific fundamental duties to their citizens and included them in their constitutions.

We can assign five basic duties for every human being as follows:-

1) Duty towards the family:
Every human being is part of a family system. Hence, naturally he owes some duties to his spouse, children and also to his relatives. As parents, they have to look after their children, educate them and help them in all possible ways until they grow and become independent. Similarly it is the duty of the children to look after their aged parents.

2) Duty towards the community:
Then every human being has got some duties and social obligations towards his neighbor or fellow human beings or towards the community. The watchword should be ‘live and let live’. While enjoying or exercising their own rights, they must respect the rights of their fellow human beings and help to maintain peace and communal harmony. Sometimes, the human beings may need to show their concern and extend their support and help towards their fellow human beings, when situations like flood or an earthquake or a financial crunch warrant it. Besides it is the duty of a human being to get rid of the social evils like corruption, nepotism, dowry system and caste system etc which are harmful to the society.

3) Duty towards the nation:
In the modern era, the concept of nationalism has given some additional duties to a human being. He should be faithful to his nation or in other words patriotic. He should respect the constitution of his country and its national flag and strictly follow the fundamental duties included in the constitution. Every citizen is endowed with some fundamental rights like right to vote etc and each citizen have to exercise them coupled with his duties to his nation.

4) Duty towards the International community:
Science and Technology has made the world small and so the human beings have some duties that they owe to the world countries. Each human being has to respect a foreign country as he loves his own country. Treat a foreigner coming to your country with due respect as you treat your neighbor or fellow human being.

5) Duty towards the flora and fauna:
According to the policy of each nation, each human being should consider and treat the plants and the animals of his country kindly and always preserve ‘the flora and fauna’ which are considered as the national treasures of a country. A human being should not forget that flora and fauna are also the wonderful creatures of the Almighty, without which our country will not look beautiful.
