In these days of busy life style involving travel and tight schedules, we naturally get tired. At the same time we need to be systematic and complete our duties. After all we are human and our body is not a machine. Hence, while attending to our duties, our first duty is to look after our health also. There is a saying in Tamil, ‘only by having a strong wall, one can draw on it’. Hence our body needs regular rest and periodic check ups. We need to have at least six to eight hours of sleep a day.

In the modern days it is quite difficult to stick on to a fixed time for sleep, because of various reasons. However, it is better to follow the general saying in this regard, ‘early to bed and early to rise’.

Why should we get up early in the morning?
We have many advantages in the early morning. It is calm. Our mind is free and fresh after the sleep. Atmosphere is free from any pollution or less polluted. We can feel the gentle breeze and fresh air when we go out. Are you a lover of nature? Then you can feel the nature is talking with you and you too can talk with nature. Above all you can inhale fresh air that is free from any pollution. Your mind gets refreshed when you go for outing. All these things are treasures which are free and available in plenty. But you can have them only if you get up early in the morning.

Again we have a problem, ‘How to get up early in the morning’.

Here are some useful tips:-

1) Always stick on to the general saying ‘early to bed and early to rise’ It is ideal to get up at 0430 am or 0500 am, in the early morning to enjoy the treasures of nature mentioned above. Avoid viewing late night programmes in the TV or surfing the internet during late hours. It is advisable to stop them at least two hours before going to bed.

2) Always have an alarm clock or a mobile phone nearby you in the bed before going to sleep. Set the timer of the alarm or mobile at 0430 am or 0500 am to wake up you. It is better to have a talking mobile to wake up you in the early morning and it goes on reminding you every ten minutes.

3) Choose a game of your choice, say tennis or shuttle or ball badminton according to your age and aptitude. Go and play the game early in the morning. You will be automatically inspired to get up early in the morning.

Elders may seek the help of your spouses to wake up you. It is better to have the company of your spouse either for walking or jogging.

5) Be systematic and regular in whatever you will do in your day today activities. Have a time table or fixed schedule for everything. Let your day begin at 0430 or 0500 am. Practise this schedule for 21 days and then it will become a habit. In other words you may not even need the help of others to wake up you in the early morning.
