Why you should Blog in Simple English?

Readers no matter where they are reading must be involved in the context of the article or a review. In order to make it happen the author need to attract the attention of the Readers and turn them into prospects.

Simple English can make this happen since it makes them go through the essence of the passage as a result what we expect is accomplished. Indirectly, this level of English ensures that whatever you write has clarity and has a boundary to what exactly you wanted to convey instead of making the reader get distracted from the theme. You might had experienced the difference yourself often. It allows the readers worldwide to go with flow and understand the implications made by the author.

It happens to be a fact that without the need of complex usage of words and phrases a relatively more simple line can make a significant influence. This gives them a chance to think about what they read a moment ago. So the author gets succeeded in his goal to sustain the thought. If you are direct and specific enough then obviously it will make the emotions if any in the passage be punched into the minds of the readers. A precise and clear passage will avoid any kind of boredom since people are busy enough to go away and have no time for you.

If you are trying to attract the audience to you alone in order to show off then there would be a trade off in the content. If things are done with ease then you stay focused on the writing by keeping in view the end users of your contribution. Now instead of making readers puzzled with your ideas it would be great if you stay more aligned and clear. Think always whether whatever you are writing will create boredom to the reader. The main motive of a blogger must be to make users get addicted to it and this can be possible only if the author is selfless.

So make sure that all your content has clarity, specific, easy, concise, smaller too. Emotions and facts will be a value addition. A universal appeal is strongly recommended. The end product will be simple and fetch what the users want. All other things simply follow.

How I made $210 in 24 hrs from Adsense with a single blog post?

On Jan 30 early morning, when I logged into my Adsense account to check my earnings, I literally jumped out

of my bed. I could not believe my eyes after seeing the total money earned under “Today’s Earnings” was $210.

I started investigating what happened on that day. I wrote a review of ‘The Millionaire’s Mind’ book in the blog post 8 Most Common

Habits of Millionaires on Jan 16th. But on 29th, I submitted my RSS feed to few RSS directories, so, it could have appeared in the last 5 or 10 syndicated posts.

I did solve the mystery when I checked my Analytics Stats. Over 10,000 unique visits and 537 clicks originated because of the traffic from a single website. I waited if Adsense will discount the stats as wrong, but it didn’t happen. The “one day earning” was added to my latest payment history. So, I thought I would share this with you.

It is a neat trick but, however I am not able to replicate it – so, it works good for the first time. It’s free, so why not give it a go.

Anyone wants to know how I did it? Read on.

I could solve the mystery when I checked my Analytics Stats. Over 18,000 unique visits and 537 clicks originated because of the traffic from a single website to that single blog post. That’s “My Yahoo” main page.

Yes, I added my RSS feed over 25 feed directories but, the one which did work like a magic is My Yahoo and here’s what I did.

http://add.my.yahoo.com/rss?url=YOUR RSS FEED

replace YOUR RSS FEED with your RSS feed url.

or alternatively you can visit http://my.yahoo.com and click ‘Personalize page’ and ‘Add RSS feed’.

Now, what happens? The newly added content from your RSS will show up to 5 headlines from your blog. This will appear in the main page of general My Yahoo’s ‘Recently Added’ page for ’sometime’. My Yahoo users will click on your eye-catchy title and come to your blog post.

If you happen to have your adsense ads above the fold and merged with your website color scheme, they would click on them.

So, write few click-bait posts (titles especially) first and then submit your RSS feeds.

10 Simple Tips to Defeat Procrastination:For Bloggers

The Procrastination Monster is stealing your time and will eventually steal your blog’s future (and your dream of making money online) if you let it. But the good news is you can defeat this foe by following these 10 easy tips:

1. USE POSITIVE SELF-TALK

What you say to yourself has everything to do with your success. If you say “I can’t do it” … you won’t.

But telling yourself that you can accomplish your blogging goals is an extremely effective way to change your mindset and your actions … if you do it consistently.

Tell yourself that you’re a successful blogger/writer. Tell yourself that you are learning how to succeed … and you will.

The next time you’re tempted to put off submitting a spec because you’re afraid it won’t be chosen, say, “I’ve got nothing to lose … and it’s great practice anyway.”

2. DON’T EXPECT PERFECTION

Remind yourself that your first draft doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to be better than the current blank screen (!). And using the secrets you’re learning gives you that edge.

3. USE SUCCESSFUL BLOGGERS AS MODELS

Every successful blogger was once where you are. Remind yourself: “Somebody is going to become a well-paid blogger this year. It may as well be me.”

4. SET UP A WORK SPACE THAT’S JUST FOR YOU

Tell your family that you’re not to be disturbed when you’re in your office … even if your “office” is a table in the corner.

5. SET A STRICT WORK SCHEDULE … AND STICK TO IT

If possible, build your schedule around the hours when you’re most productive. Usually, this is early in the morning. Don’t do ANYTHING not work-related in this time period … including mopping floors, replacing carburetors, or straightening your desk. To keep yourself on track, use a “To-Do” list.

6. BREAK YOUR WORK INTO MANAGEABLE CHUNKS

Research shows that procrastinators have trouble facing the entire task. So you’ll have better success by breaking your work into small chunks that can be done in 15-minute increments.

On your To-Do list, just scribble down the blog topics you want to cover and start on each one of them, stop when you are bored with one. Start another and cycle through each of the drafts and so, you will have plenty to work on and you can schedule for publishing once you finish them.

7. IDENTIFY TIME EATERS

The Internet and phones gobble up precious creative time. Check email only 3 times a day, Stop reading the blog feeds every now and then. Do forum chats and surf the Net ONLY after you’ve spent your allotted time on writing posts for your blog.

Get a phone with caller ID or a message machine so you can monitor calls. Answer only your business calls during work time.

8. SET REALISTIC GOALS

Don’t set goals so lofty that only a superstar could achieve them. (”Write 4 posts a day.”) Instead, set a reasonable goal. (”Write 5 posts a week.”)

Break the goal into manageable objectives. After you achieve that goal, set another one.

9. BE HONEST WITH YOURSELF

You will always find excuses why you can’t write today, why tomorrow will be better. This is a trap. Tomorrow is no different from today. If you’re able to write the day before your deadline, you can write just as well two weeks before. You CAN do it today.

10. Spend quality time OFFLINE

It is perfectly normal to feel that you are wasting a lot, getting stuck without ideas. Just hit ‘Shut Down’ and go for a walk. Find a nice quiet place in a park or coffee shop and contemplate on life, thank those helped you so far. Just spend time with your friends, grandma or nanny – talking with them. You will feel much better when you come back to the desktop.

How to capture full-sized screenshots of websites

Capturing a full-size screenshot of a lengthy website or a blog is a tricky exercise. There are some screen capturing programs available (SnagIt) , but they come up with a cost. There are some online services that help to achieve the same, but you have to wait in the queue and it is not handy of you want to capture screenshots at your will.

But, I have been using a free, firefox plug-in that not only captures the full screenshot, but it allows you to add text, arrows, and boxes so you can illustrate the screenshot with additional information.

FireShot – is the plug-in that I am talking about. It is a free program that can be installed on top of firefox and helps you to take the full length screenshot or just visible portion of a webpage. It is a neat, little time saver for me so far while making illustrated screenshots.

This plug-in is an extension of the free software ScreenShot which is a standalone desktop program for your PC. You can download Screenshot for free.

For example, look at the sample screenshot of this blog which is normally 4 or 5 screens length and FireShot captures in a single shot.

Instantly increase your Feedburner subscribers count

Do you publish your blog RSS feeds with feedburner? Then you can increase your feed subscribers counts by bringing your old subscribers into your new feedburner account. And, the best part is you need not ask your old skool RSS readers who subscribed to your blog before you burnt the feedburner feed.

If you are hosting your blog on Blogger, and you recently moved to your own custom domain, then this is a simple hack to increase your Feedburner Subscribers count.

Recently, feedburner gave the option of combining Blogger’s default atom feeds with your feedburner.

All you need to do is go to your Blogger account’s Settings page.

Click on “Site Feed”. Use the empty box of “Post Feed Redirect URL” and paste your Feedburner feed URL.

From now onwards, all your feeds will be combined. Anyone wishing to subscribe to your blog will get your feedburner feed.

Now, you may ask how does that increase the subscribers count.

The redirect URL settings add your previous (atom feed) subscribers who subscribed to your blog. Hence, you have combined all the readers count at one place.

After setting your redirect feed URL and saved your settings, check back your feedburner stats after 2 or 3 hrs.

Voilla, the subscribers count would have gone up. Provided your blog had readers before you burnt the feedburner feed.

Does Australia need more active bloggers?

I have found Australians are very straightforward in expressing their opinions and thoughts. It is surprising however, to find only a few thousand active bloggers in Australia. Pity!

Meg in her Recounting Australian Blogs has posted these questions. I have been thinking to write on these lines for a while. So, Here are my thoughts.

What ideas do you have for promoting Aussie blogs and bloggers?

Telly (television) will be my first medium to promote blogs and blogging. Do a special episode (or a series) about Blogging in prime-time shows such as current affairs, today tonight.
Running an advert on a newspaper is the next best thing. Even if we put together 50 cents each, we can publish an ad on the Sunday newspaper. The promotion lines could be ..”Start a blog, Change Australia”, “Express yourself with a blog” (dont laugh!).
Running a “Great Aussie Blogs” contest and let the readers vote on blogs under different categories.
Creating an awareness on different blogging media and platforms – I mean people can microblog with twitter, tumblr . Not only text – audio blogs, photo blogs, video blogs as well, there are plenty of opportunities.
Create blogs for your friends, parents and grandparents. We don’t have time, but there are people out there who have plenty of time. Ask them to blog, anything.

Do you think we do enough (considering the above named local blog searches and directories)? What are we lacking?

Blog directories, aggregation, rankings are good (from blogger’s perspective). But, it lacks the interaction from readers. I would like to see a blog posts aggregation page – which shows Most read posts, Most commented posts, Recent posts, Recently updated blogs (the last two things are already done by australian index) and a voting feature for the readers (a thumbs up or thumbs down sign).

How often do we stumble upon to a fresh aussie blog? Not often. We should work on a model where blogs can be discovered by readers – a stumble upon like toolbar (it could be web based as well) for australian bloggers. How about featuring a “Blog of the Day” on the Directory’s home page

There are plenty of such ‘Aussie Blog Directories’ but none of them is complete – all have rss aggregation, rankings and a search. Not enough if you want to develop a blog portal. As a reader, I enjoy reading a regional language (Tamil) portal named Thamizmanam (they have an English portal but – it didn’t go well). Another similar blog portal is Thenkoodu (in the same language). I can list the features they have if anyone wants to develop such a blog portal.

We can have forums – but people never would be the first to start posting in it. So, post a topic and invite people (pro bloggers) to write on a specific topic like this, “What ideas do you have for promoting Aussie blogs and bloggers?“. Everyone will chip in with their ideas.

If you were to set up a new domain for promoting the aussosphere what would you do with it?

I would develop a site from the reader’s perspective. Easy to browse, plenty of things to get lost into – is it a dream?

Don’t know what to blog next ? Here’s a solution

Often writers (now, bloggers) experience a “writer’s block”. A writer experiences a “writer’s block” when he struggles to find a knot or an opening prompt for a story (not knowing what to write next).

It is natural everyone needs a prompt to kickstart our brain. Daily Prompt Generator is a valuable tool that you can bookmark that provides a daily prompt, whenever you ask for it.

The prompt may be something like,

“What are you saying good-bye to right now? Write about something you can safely say good-bye to today.”

“”List all the FAMILY VACATIONS you remember taking when you were younger.”

There we go, now you can write on those ideas for hours and hours. There are plenty of such prompt generators that exist in the website including list generators, prompts for kids and poetry prompts.

There is a similar tool available at WritersDigest website as well (I guess the former is better in my view).

If you are tired of keeping a blog running, then microblogging is for you. With microblogging, you can post just a picture, a link or a quote that you liked or a status update on what do you do or where are you. With web services such as Twitter, Jaiku and Pownce, everyone is catching up with microblogging.

A microblog is easy to maintain with only brief text updates that you can type and send with your mobile phone, email or instant messenger. Now, even facebook has a feature that lets you to inform your friends about what you are doing.

There is another interesting development namely, “Tumblelogs”, that are also increasingly becoming popular. Wikipedia defines a tumblelog ‘as a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts’. If blogs can be compared to commentaries, with tumblelogs, you can post only your creations – that include web links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Tumblelogs are even better because, you can feed RSS into a tumblelog. For instance, Tumblr (just like Blogger for Blogs)- a popular tumble log service – allows you to combine your RSS feeds from your favourite sites and publishes automatically. You can point your flickr photostream RSS, Twitter RSS to your Tumblr blog which publishes updates when you update on flickr or twitter. For example, see my photo tumblelog that is fed by my flickr photostream.

If any of your friends think that starting a blog is a big responsibility, ask them to try microblogging.
