You can lose everything, but you can win them all back if you have self-confidence. There are few ways by which you can build your self-confidence.

1. Handle your emotions
Like every other person on earth, you will need to feel happy, sad or dejected from time to time. It is impossible to be on top of your emotions all the time. You just need to handle emotions a bit so that it won’t stop the way you behave to others or affect your performance. Go for a walk if you are angry about something, which will surely change the way you feel.

2. Be responsible for your behaviour
Stop complaining others for what happened to you. If you find reasons or try to pass the buck to someone, it is not a good behaviour at any level. Accepting that you made mistake and being responsible for your behaviour (good or bad) will make you appear mature and confident.

3. Make decisions
Don’t postpone taking decisions. Make decisions and act on them. It is easy if you practise decision-making a habit. The successful people are the ones who take more decisions and act upon them immediately. Lazy ones take the decision to postpone thing s – that’s the only decision they make and it is of no use to anyone.

4. Do not worry about others
Don’t compare yourself to others and feel dejected. It won’t do any good for you. Instead, concentrate on your life and set your own standards. Improve on them as you achieve them progressively. Don’t think how others think or feel about you. How you feel about yourself is more important than how others feel about you.

5. Make yourself cheerful
Make a list of things that make you cheerful and happy. This could be something like listening to songs, reading a book, watching a movie, singing a song or talking to a friend. When you are feeling depressed or dejected, try few things from your “cheerful list”. It will instantly change your confidence level.

ii. Try to implement new ways of doing a task. See that it is effective than your previous ways.

iii. Attempt to change the things at your hand that are not productive.

iv. Give suggestions if asked for on how to improve. Never be talkative and never give away advices when not asked for.

v. Try to be innovative and be dynamic to changes of the organization since they need you to be so.

vi. Make sure that you do tasks assigned to you in time effectively, at least during initial stages and later try to continue do the same.

vii. First impression is the best impression. This holds true even at your work. If your superior or boss is really encouraging then try to impress him without any thought.

viii. If you have ability to do a task never step back due to influences from colleagues since it could be an opportunity to grow faster in career.

Show high levels of effort when organization is in need of such commitment. It will definitely recognize and reward your efforts. This kind of attitude will keep you free from all worries daily at work. Indirectly it will boost the chances of getting on to a fast track career.

Once you look out into the society what you see is people. You could see senior citizens taking a walk in the park, roads filled with public and traffic. This exactly shows about your community and environment. Do you think you allotted time to give a thought of a life in a country side like a village ? . This is a place where you find communities, relatives, friends and neighbors always to take care of you. If you believe that you are a person who really care for your society and can motivate the people around you to grow along with you. Then this great feeling shows that you wanted to be socially responsible as an individual to this society. If you are a teenage then you always have this thought to do something but never find a best way of doing it.

Here are few ways to give a kick start to your efforts -

• Start from micro level, for instance donate as much as you can even its little in terms of money if you cannot spend time.

• Find a social network or community that is dedicated to social services and makes use of every penny it has got. Join it and do as much service as you can.

• Actively involve in activities that are meant for improving the community and society. Usually these events are on weekends so you will have time for them.

• Start as an individual and spread the thought across your place at least to some extent.

When you are bothered so much for your children as a parent then why not do you think of having at least similar life to abandoned children. On the whole you are in quest of being a responsible citizen. Indirectly it will result in your growth and increased respect. This is just an attempt by you to give in return to the nation or society which gave you everything right from your birth.

Personal effectiveness can be explained as an ability to achieve positive results in those areas of life which matter to you. One person evidently becomes more effective than other in achieving results. So in order to get through these differences let us see what we have to do.

• Ability to take the initiative –
If you initiate your efforts it shows that you are an undisputed leader and usually fall in the eyes of people who can give you an opportunity to grow. It could be at your college or at work. Academic brilliance and ability to influence the environment together alone can make you succeed in career. You will be lost in the crowd if you keep trying to meet the expectations of others instead of influencing them.

• Self-awareness –
Never ignore your weaknesses and have lack of faith in your strengths since it will never let you go forward in life. You need to have a very good understanding of your strengths and weaknesses. Self awareness helps us to have confidence in our abilities. Many weaknesses can be overcome if we can be determined and disciplined. We can make better and more appropriate career choices once we have better understanding of our strengths.

• Focus on goals -
All effective people who are great now are always concerned and think about their goal which are beyond their needs. The same attitude helps you to have a sense of purpose and makes you more effective. Since you will be able to focus all your strength towards your goal.

• Interactive -
If you have an ability to establish and maintain relations with people then you will be popular . To be effective one should not only know about other’s feelings but also be sensitive to them. You will be allowed to learn more about others only when you start sharing about you with others.

Now these are few key factors of personal effectiveness which confirms that personal effectiveness is a state of being rather than an ability or skill that can be acquired.

Some steps that can help you a lot in improving your personal effectiveness are

1. List out all those areas in life which really matter a lot to you and stay focused on those things alone.
For instance, if you want to be a Software Engineer then include it too.

2. Now just remove all those items in that list which you had already achieved.

3. Arrange the rest of the items as per your priority or importance.

4. So now consider the remaining list and study on why you were not able to achieve those goals till now.

5. Keeping in mind these things try to find out how you can approach these issues in life differently.

6. If possible take a feedback from people who know you very well. Focus on what people say about you and consider whether their comments are valid. Do you need to change your attitude and approach life differently ?

7. Decide the areas of your personality you need to work upon.

To be more simple, what you do and how you do it. It can be improved only by practice and through time. For example, When you learn swimming, you start from basics and with time you develop your own techniques and ways of doing it as you like comfortably. You at last enjoy doing it so easily that you will be surprised. An important part of a skill is the need for constant improvement.

Soft skills are the skills and abilities that will help you carve out a successful career and assist you in becoming a complete professional. Cleverly acquired by your mind into your personal and college life too. These skills will prove to be useful in preparing yourself for future challenges in life. These skills include a range of qualities that help you understand and develop a rewarding work environments. They include teamwork, time management, problem solving techniques, values, goals, aspirations etc. Unfortunately the regular education we had only provides you with excellent subject based knowledge which alone is not at all enough.

In general they are your interpersonal skills like respect to others privacy, learning from mistakes and your attitude towards your work. Soft skills help you in training yourself to face challenges in the work arena you enter after your education. Since you will be competing with others who would be equally good in their subjects you will always need stronger advantage over them.

1. You can improve by knowing exactly what they do and just keep following them. A simple example is to be polite to your sub-ordinates.

2. The best source would be participating in Group discussions that reflects your behavior and manners while in a group.

3. Participating in activities that have teams like projects, sports etc.

4. Always try to be a learner and do accept your mistakes so that you can correct them.

5. Learn to be dynamic and multi tasking as it improves your efficiency.

6. Right action at the right time gives your right results.

7. Manage your time with high discipline as it shows your commitment and dedication.

8. Never try to be dominating without being a performer.

9. Continuous skill improvement whether its about technology or anything related to your domain will help you to reach your goals.

Soft skills increases your ability to

Work efficiently, independently in an organization.

You will be able to take responsibility for your work and gain satisfaction from it.

Take initiative in problem solving and generating ideas.

Achieve self growth and development in career.

Here are few tips that will help you as a kind of agents to adjust with the changes
quickly, successfully and in an easy way.

1. Accept and Tolerate small failures

What matters is not error that is made but the efficiency and speed with which the error is addressed and corrected. This gives you self satisfaction and makes you a learner. So while implementing any change always remember that errors or mistakes will definitely occur and they are unavoidable.

2. Make use of your fresh ideas as much as you can

A Brilliant idea until and unless acted or implemented immediately becomes useless.

3. Remember that we always meet changes regularly specially at work or even at home. So get used to it.

4. Give a Fresh start

While implementing any change never allow any negative thoughts and experiences from your effort in the past to interrupt it to stop. Instead try to consider it as a lesson and focus on making a new effort to start.

5. Keep the goals in mind

You must make sure that your goals of the change are reasonable and must give an advantage to you. Keep these objectives in mind while implementing or learning to change. Do not get sidetracked or lose your focus due to simple things or issues.

6. Recognize and remove irrelevant ideas

It is a good idea to have a positive stand while trying to change something. Do evaluation of all the data at your hand and simply throw away useless or unrelated ideas.

7. Try to make or refine the change

Be innovative and allow make alterations or improvements to the change regularly

8. Keep track and measure the progress

Whether you are implementing a change or receiver of a change there must be a way to keep track and measure the effect of the change to you. Check out whether you met all your goals or not. If not try to improve and meet them.

These tips will prove to be quite handy when you are in a situation where you are unable to adjust yourself to the change or even hesitating to make a change. Follow them with discipline you will surely be successful.

Few days ago, I asked my fellow LinkedIn members to tell the best lesson that they learnt in their career.

The answers were simply amazing and it will be of use to anyone who starts in their career or who wants to do better in their career. My sincere thanks to all the answerers who spent time to come up with good career advice.

8. Trust your instincts:

When everything seemed to be lost; my trust in others had vanished; I was alone with my uncertainties, fears and doubts and I didn’t know exactly what to do, how to do it and when to do it, then, I realized that I had yet a last and always infallible resource, my inner light, my intuition, my wise instinct to discover the true course of action and thereby get the certainty about knowing what to do, how to do it and when to do it, although this could signify starting the game again being a better person and a wiser professional with a stronger vision and a baggage of new learnings, experiences and competences.

(Octavio Ballesta, Management Consultant Corporate Strategist)

9. Love what you do.

Given to me by the great science fiction writer, Ray Bradbury. “Name your loves, then prove your loves.”

13. “When you lose, don’t lose the lesson”. In other words, never repeat your mistakes

14. “Volunteer yourself for work other than limited to your areas that improves your skill set and visibility in the organization”

21. Never kick a door in anger as you don’t know who’s on their way in! )

22. ‘Always read something that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.’ I will leave you with that quotation by the inimitable PJ O’Rourke.

23. Do not live under a stone. Keep yourself relevant by keeping up with trends

It’s easy to get engrossed in the details of now, but it’s vitally important that you take a step back and look at larger trends. Our world is changing at an extremely rapid pace. If you aren’t looking, technology may chage many things in the bat of an eye. In the last 5 years the iPod has virtually revolutionized the Mp3, the music and the cellphone industry. The devices we carry in our pockets are more powerful than the computers that used to sit on our desks, just 10 years ago.

These are the types of trends and happening that as you go through your day to day, you have to realize and account for – or else you will get left behind and/or miss major – MAJOR opportunities!

Craig McCaw is a great example of someone in the telecom industry who has consistently capitalized on sweeping changes. From AT&T, to Nextel to Clearwire. Because, he has kept himself relevant by watching the larger marketplace.

(Darryl Gee, President at DG Wireless)

24. Understand the politics of any situation and think about your reaction. A wrong move can leave long lasting scars (in others perceptions) that can threaten career progression.

(Bryan Lade, General Manager at Author Services Technical (AST))

25.Never stop learning which also means: never stop being humble enough to understand you need to learn, and there are so many people out there who are better than you, AND

26. Rely on common sense. The way forward is generally, if not always, is the COMMON SENSE approach.

Too complex, too difficult to explain, too many premises, too many “if”s typically mean that you are not in the right direction.

(David Viamonte, Senior Technology Manager at Genaker)

27. Never leave the once-in-a-life-time opportunity. I still regret why I didn’t take that one. Keep learning all your life and do your best. Leave the rest to God or destiny whatever we may call it as per our faith.

(Nirpendra A, CA, CISA, CIA )

Source:unknown

28. To slow down and make sure that everything is correct and where it needs to be!

(Jim Rivers, Hiring Manager at Obsidian Entertainment)

So, What is the best lesson that you learnt in your career?
