So how exactly you can find information on the net ?

1. You can look for the subject or topic by using any or all of these ways.

2. Browser.

3. Explore a subject directory.

4. Conduct a search using search engines.

5. Join an email discussion group.

6. If you have the address URL of a web site you can directly go to the website.

Now how each method helps you in searching for information,

Browser – The home pages on the web are huge in amount but are interestingly you can find desired material on the net.

Explore a directory –

Increased number of universities, companies or libraries or organizations and even volunteers are creating subject directories to catalog portions on the Internet.
Most of these provide search feature that allows you to query the database on your topic of interest.

Conduct a search using web search engine –

3. List keywords for the concept, for instance ‘budget’, ‘budget details’.

4. Specify the logical relationship among the keywords using ‘and’, ‘or’ and ‘not’.

5. Web search engines offer access to vast range of resources located on the Internet. Some good search engines are obviously Google followed by Alta Vista, HotBot, Infoseek

6. The key word needs to be as a way to ask the search to proceed easily. The engine searches its index and generates a page with links to these resources related to your words.

If you have too many results –

• Search for particular words or fields.

• Add concept words.

• Use vocabulary specific to the point.

If your search term is a phrase include it in ” ” double quotes.

• Drop the least important concepts.

• Use more general words.

• Add alternative terms or spellings.

If you are tired of keeping a blog running, then microblogging is for you. With microblogging, you can post just a picture, a link or a quote that you liked or a status update on what do you do or where are you. With web services such as Twitter, Jaiku and Pownce, everyone is catching up with microblogging.

A microblog is easy to maintain with only brief text updates that you can type and send with your mobile phone, email or instant messenger. Now, even facebook has a feature that lets you to inform your friends about what you are doing.

There is another interesting development namely, “Tumblelogs”, that are also increasingly becoming popular. Wikipedia defines a tumblelog ‘as a variation of a blog, that favors short-form, mixed-media posts’. If blogs can be compared to commentaries, with tumblelogs, you can post only your creations – that include web links, photos, quotes, dialogues, and video. Tumblelogs are even better because, you can feed RSS into a tumblelog. For instance, Tumblr (just like Blogger for Blogs)- a popular tumble log service – allows you to combine your RSS feeds from your favourite sites and publishes automatically. You can point your flickr photostream RSS, Twitter RSS to your Tumblr blog which publishes updates when you update on flickr or twitter. For example, see my photo tumblelog that is fed by my flickr photostream.

If any of your friends think that starting a blog is a big responsibility, ask them to try microblogging.

“I do not want to watch 100 channels for my favourite tv shows. I want one channel that could provide me with all my favourite shows”.

I am agreeing to the words spoken by Nicholas Negroponte, the founder and chairman of the One Laptop per Child non-profit association, in a conference a few months ago.

You call it a personal television or a customizable tv or whatever fancy name you like.

This is the future of tv, I guess.

We spend most of our time in front of our PCs and on the web. Make that as a personal, internet tv. You have understood the concept what Google is talking about.

Already, the success of social video sharing sites such as YouTube and MetCafe shows that we no longer would rush home to watch our evening favourite tv shows. We can afford miss them because, most probably we can find them online and we can watch them whenever we wish.

Google has much grander plans for Internet TV. For instance, the relevancy of ads specific to the users. Say, the advertisers can specifically show relevant ads to the viewers of a specific show, specific to a geographic region and time of viewing. The viewers of ‘The Simpsons’ will watch different ads compared to the viewers of “LOST”.

“With a little Internet know-how, the TV industry can enjoy a brighter future, says the search giant. Google style.”

Now on, users will have the option of searching for their favourite episodes and view them on pay-per-view basis. You pay only for the episodes that you view.

Detailed Post on ‘Google wants to do for TV what it did for the Web‘ from Daniel on last100.com

In a previous blog post, I mentioned about Alexa Pagerank and how you can improve your site’s rankings.

Earlier, the firefox users did not have an exclusive alexa toolbar. Now, we can download the official toolbar named, Sparky – the alexa toolbar for firefox.

When you visit a site, you can automatically see the alexa parameters such as..

Related Links: Find sites that are similar to the one you are currently visiting.

Traffic Trend: A sparkline showing the traffic trend from the last four months.

Reach Meter: A neat little indicator that shows the site’s Reach.

Traffic Rank: Shows the current site’s Alexa Traffic Rank.

What a cool tool.

“Reportedly, a 22-year old Chinese welder actually perished after a cellphone battery residing in his pocket exploded. The eruption was so violent, in fact, that it “broke a rib and drove the remnants of the pack into his heart,” and while rescue crews were able to get him to a hospital, he passed away shortly thereafter.”

Positive Features (Why you will go for Apple iPhone):

1) The design is great, and we have not seen such a good designed gadget for a long time.

2) Touch screen feature is the most-talked-about one. It has a glass screen to minimise scratching marks.

3) It is the most anticipated gadget for the year in US. Well, we copy that.

4) Wirless Internet. Now, you can check your emails, facebook messages and orkut scraps while you are on the move.

5) Google is going to release exclusive web applications for Smart Phones especially, for the Apple iPhones.

6) The iPhone weighs 127.57 grams to be exact which is roughly equivalent of 1 box of 24 crayons.

Negative Points (Why I wont buy the first version):

1) Wow, it has a 2 mega-pixel camera. Duh, it is the age of 5 mp cam, bro. Wake up.

2) You need to pay A$ 590 for a 4GB storage and A$ 700 for an 8GB storage. Is that all?

3) You can only browse the web for 6 hours. Just 6 hours? At least I want that to be 8 hrs, dude.

4) The talktime is 8 hrs (Great). Recently, another smartphone, O2 Jet , was launched with 10 hours of talk and 540 hours of standby that costs just A$140.

5) Even though, Apple iPhone is open for sale from June 29th (2007) in the USA, it wont be available in Australian stores until 2008. So, unless I touch and feel, I wont buy it.

Well, those are the points that you need to ask yourself before you buy the ‘Big Product’. Will you go for it, still?

By the way, if you want a Free iPhone, take this offer. Easy.

Fighting spam has become a compulsive act of our online living. Spams come in different forms and pose siginificant threat to your privacy and security. BorderWare MXtreme is an efficient at handling and filtering out these spams reaching your office servers, it filters almost about 98% of spams. Commonly, the spam filter programs rely on sifting through the keywords from which a message is classified as a spam. Now, the spams got even better. Now, a new kind of spams are emerging which are called as “image spams” – spam messages are sent as images so they will escape through the spam filters. The emails look like text but, automatic programs form such text-to-image spams with differnt colours, designs and attributes. BorderWare MXtreme has developed an anti image spam that uses a patent-pending technology that analyses each image for about 30 attributes, number of pixels, size and colours so they can be eliminated as spams. Now, what have you got spammers?
