A good night’s sleep will always refresh you physically and mentally. Everyone needs adequate sleep to remain productive with their study or career. But, most of us do not understand our own sleeping patterns. We either under-sleep or over sleep both of them result in tiredness and unproductive days. Here are some simple tips to sleep smart and awake fresh every day.

1. Understand the essentials – Stuck with a deadline? Need to burn mid-night-oil and work day and night to finish a work? You are doing more harm than you can imagine to yourself by losing sleep. Sleep is good for your brain and it will keep you in good physical condition. Sleep is a great stress-reliever and sleep is a good natural medicine.

2. Duration of sleep – I know some people who sleep for just 4 hours every night but feel fresh and I also know some people who sleep for more than 10 hours and still awake tired. You just need to find out the duration of sleep that you need. Go to bed when you feel sleepy and wake up when you feel fresh.

3. Understand your sleep cycles – we all sleep in regular cycles. Each sleep cycle lasts for 90 minutes (that is 1 and half hour) and then we wake up from the sleep, it continues until daybreak. Maintain a sleep journal and note down what time you go to sleep and set your alarm, adjusting for the 90 minute cycles. When you awake in the middle of a sleep cycle, you would naturally would fall back to sleep. Adjust your alarm accordingly.

4. Sleep routine – follow a sleep routine every day. Stop watching television or using computers at least 1 hour before you hit your bed. This will give enough rest to your eyes and will alert your brain that you are ready for sleep. Drink a glass of warm water, dim the bedroom lights or do a routine set of tasks so that you will fall into a good night’s sleep every day. Don’t alter it even for the weekends.

5. Avoid daytime naps – some people say a quick nap during daytime will keep you refreshed. But, I would advocate that you sleep only during a specific time during night.

Before you start an exercise program, spend some time in defining why you need to start this exercise program. Always start with a goal; think about what you wish to achieve – a reduced weight, smaller waistline or some measurable goal. Having such a goal will compel you to stick to the exercise schedule to achieve the desired result. Once you visualise the result that you would like to achieve, develop a plan of exercising. Here are few tips to stick to your exercising plan and schedule.

1. Find like-minded friends – have a bet with a friend of yours and start exercising together. It could be a simple thing such as walking, jogging or swimming, but do it together. Each should encourage other so you stick to the exercising schedule without fail.

2. Start small – if you plan to start doing big exercises, you might not like it. You will probably stop your exercising program after few days. Instead, start doing a small activity, an enjoyable activity regularly.

3. Fall into a routine – stick a routine, choose a comfortable time of your day and stick to it. Can’t you allot a small window every day, for your own sake? Come what may, stop what you are doing and stick to a routine of exercising.

4. Measure progress – After a certain period, measure if you have lost weight or reduced your waistline. Don’t feel dejected if you don’t achieve. The measurements will keep you focused on the exercise routine and will push you towards your desired goal.

5. Enjoy – if you think exercising is a hard task, you will more likely to feel it as a burden. Instead, enjoy the process of exercising. Listen to your favourite songs or a good talk while you do your walking.

6. Reward yourself – have small sub-goals towards your desired result. Reduce your weight by 1 Kg by 2 weeks. If you do it, reward yourself with a small gift (no junk food please). Such rewards will make you more comfortable with harder goals. You can expand your goals to achieve far better results.

Eating right and eating in right quantities is the only way to be healthy. By the way, what is good food, anyway? Good food is the food that will not produce any ill-effects for your body. You will feel fresh and healthy when you eat, will give sufficient energy when you finished eating. Everyone is unique and has different dietary needs. Fresh vegetables, fruits and nuts are generally considered as good food.

Here are few reasons why you should eat right food.

1. Eating fresh food will keep your health – you know how you feel after eating a double-layered-cheese pizza. Tired and overly stressed more than that, stuffed. Eating fresh food keeps your skin shiny, healthy and naturally you will have a youthful, good look. You would like to keep yourself healthy, don’t you? Choose your food carefully to live healthy

2. Eating fresh food is enjoyable – eating fresh food is a very pleasant experience. Nutritious food always makes you feel happy because you know you are eating good food and that will make you happy.

3. Eating fresh food is environment-friendly – when you try to eat uncooked food or minimally cooked food, you are not using much energy to cook. So, you can reduce your energy bills and will learn to live an environment-friendly way.

4. Eating fresh food is easy – you won’t need to spend time in cooking (frying, steaming). Just make a plate of salads by cutting fresh vegetables, add some salt and seasoning, your meal is ready. You will start enjoying such fresh food.

Stress has become a biggest part of everyone’s life. Stress can be due to physical, emotional or mental challenges. You can’t avoid being stressful but, you can handle stress to overcome the ill-effects of being stressful.

1. Become physically active – get up and walk or run, by changing your physical state, you can instantly relive your stress.

2. Laugh – listen to a joke or tell a joke to someone. Laugh together. Laugh until your face hurts (nearly).

3. Listen to kids – watching a baby smile or listening to a story told by a kid will make your stress vanish.

4. Express how you feel – talk about your feelings, write about them or paint them. Just let it out how you feel.

5. Simplify – may be you are pushing yourself too much, so take a break and simplify things. Sometimes it is a smart job to walk away from a stressful deal or work.

6. Eating right – eating fresh food is believed to release your stress. Don’t ever do the mistake of cramming yourself with fast foods, when you are stressed.

7. Be with Friends and Family – develop some relationships that will make you forget all your worries; put you into a comfortable state.

Life would be boring if one spends his/her lifetime worrying about everything. Life is too precious to spend your time worrying. Laughter is the best medicine available for all ages and there is only one side effect, which is it will entertain the people surrounding you. No one will be friendly with you if you are always worried about something.

1. Laugh every now and then and you will feel young at heart. Your stress will vanish and you won’t have any health problems, as laughter boosts your immune system.

2. With laughter, you can easily make friends. You will be seen approachable in a party if you sport a constant smile.

6. Laughter is a good way to exercise your facial muscles. It is proven that laughing more will keep your face fresh and young.

7. By laughing often, you will spread a good vive around you which will effect everyone surrounding you. Whether people understand or not, they will feel better if you are around with laughter.

Lists are great, if you have used to have a simple, to-do-list, you know the effectiveness of lists. Lists help you to increase your productivity and it is a great feeling when you put a tick against a thing you scheduled to finish.

Here are few reasons why you should have a list to get more things done in less time.

1. Lists are a great organizing tool
If you don’t know where to start, start making a list of things to do. A step-by-step is very easily communicated and understood.

2. Lists will simplify things
Don’t know how to solve a big problem? Break down into a number of simple tasks in the form a list. Start with number one on your task list.

3. Lists give you confidence
The great utility of a list is when you finish an activity on the list; you can put a tick against it. This would provide immense confidence on your progress; after all, you have crossed the first, tough milestone and only few more to finish the whole list of things to do.

4. Lists can be shared
If you plan to solve a problem in a group, a lists is a great way to share tasks. You can delegate tasks and assign few tasks (items on the list) to each person and you can easily monitor the progress.

5. Everyone loves lists
Lists are easy to read because, they are already organised for easy reading. This is why lists are more popular with web readers and anyone who comes across a list will always check out or even save it for future reference. Bigger the list, better it will be for audience.

We all have problems. Some seems big and some seems small. Here are some tips to solve almost any kind of problem no matter how big they are; no matter who you are. Think of a problem as an opportunity to learn new things. May be a problem will teach you a lesson or help you to overcome a fear. Problems will appear to come back to you until you learn to master them.

1. Every problem has a solution, whether you are aware of it or not. And no matter what problem you may face, there are already people who might have successfully solved it.

2. Break down the problem into manageable chunks. Write down the sub-problems or the tasks you need to achieve.

3. Imagine that you successfully solve the problem. Clearly visualize that you are happy after solving the problem.

4. Most of the problem is in your mind.

5. You gather relevant information, people who can solve it. Learn to distinguish the real problem from the problems that you are imagining. Most of the time, we fear about the after effects, which stop us from taking actions.

6. Gather enough information to approach the problem. Can you find an expert who is good at solving these types of problems? Can you ask your friends to refer someone who might know the know-how of solving this kind of problem?

7. Talk with people who can find a solution to the problem. If one can’t solve it, ask them who else will be able to solve the problem.

8. Be prepared to change your approach if your solution doesn’t work. There are more than one way to solve a problem. Keep some backup plans in case if a solution fails.

9. Sometimes starting from the end result and working backwards can result in a solution. Start from the desired result.

10. Always remember. Every problem has a good solution. You just need to find it. Ask for help. Your friends or the people who care about you are waiting for an opportunity to help you. All the best.

You can lose everything, but you can win them all back if you have self-confidence. There are few ways by which you can build your self-confidence.

1. Handle your emotions
Like every other person on earth, you will need to feel happy, sad or dejected from time to time. It is impossible to be on top of your emotions all the time. You just need to handle emotions a bit so that it won’t stop the way you behave to others or affect your performance. Go for a walk if you are angry about something, which will surely change the way you feel.

2. Be responsible for your behaviour
Stop complaining others for what happened to you. If you find reasons or try to pass the buck to someone, it is not a good behaviour at any level. Accepting that you made mistake and being responsible for your behaviour (good or bad) will make you appear mature and confident.

3. Make decisions
Don’t postpone taking decisions. Make decisions and act on them. It is easy if you practise decision-making a habit. The successful people are the ones who take more decisions and act upon them immediately. Lazy ones take the decision to postpone thing s – that’s the only decision they make and it is of no use to anyone.

4. Do not worry about others
Don’t compare yourself to others and feel dejected. It won’t do any good for you. Instead, concentrate on your life and set your own standards. Improve on them as you achieve them progressively. Don’t think how others think or feel about you. How you feel about yourself is more important than how others feel about you.

5. Make yourself cheerful
Make a list of things that make you cheerful and happy. This could be something like listening to songs, reading a book, watching a movie, singing a song or talking to a friend. When you are feeling depressed or dejected, try few things from your “cheerful list”. It will instantly change your confidence level.

You might have noticed that some of your friends are experts when it comes to hosting a party or social gathering. Would you like to host your guests next time so that they will feel happy to come back next time?

Follow these five tips.

1. Plan well in advance
If you want to host a successful party, then plan it well in advance. How many guests you would like to host? Who should be invited? What food should you prepare? You should also consider dietary and special needs of guests. Prepare your home by tidying it well and having spare towels, bed sheets ready. Buy some drinks and snacks (more than you may need) so that you don’t run out of them when you need them most. Clearly communicate the date, time and address to your guests, give your phone number in case if your guests need to ring you for anything.

2. Make your guests feel at home
When guests arrive, offer to take their coats and handbags and store them in safe places. Offer them a glass of water or drink. Show the guests where the toilets are, designated smoking area in your home. Explain house rules if you have any. You can play some music but do not switch on Television. Television may reduce the interactivity between guests as they might glue themselves with the TV screen.

3. Introduce your guests to each other
Make sure you introduce your guests to each other. Let no one will be left alone standing unattended or feeling lonely (especially the singles). You need to go around each one and share a joke or two. Don’t pay attention to one group alone. Circulate along your house constantly asking if your guests need anything.

4. Thank you guests if they bring some gifts or drinks
If some guests have brought drinks, gifts or food, thank them for their kind act. Make sure those who haven’t brought anything are also not offended in anyway. During inviting, you can even mention if you do need some drinks or not. In countries like Australia, if someone says ‘Bring a plate’ it means that you are requested to bring in some food to share with others.

5. Thank guests for coming
This is a very simple but most essential part of hosting a party. After the party is finished, when the guests are leaving, make sure you show your happiness for them coming to your home. You say that you look forward to have them again at your home soon.
